agog! press is pleased to announce a third anthology of new fantastic fiction, launch date: Easter 2004 at Swancon 2004.

The aim of agog! Smashing Stories is, as it was for the first two anthologies, to bring together exciting, compulsively readable stories in the fantastic genres of SF, horror and general fantasy. The central criteria are quality, excitement and fun. We want stories which engage the imagination, maintain a thrilling pace, and rocket the reader into an astounding world of speculative imagination. Think of the sort of excitement once generated by the pulp SF magazines!

No bottom-drawer duds, please. agog! wants quality. The stories we're looking for might be newly created for the anthology, or may be languishing in your filing cabinet for want of a sympathetic editor. But either way, they must be well-written and pacey, with an imaginative compulsion that leaves us thoroughly agog!

See the first anthology if you want to get an idea of what we're after.

Reading period:

from March 2003 through to the end of October 2003. The third agog! anthology is open to all Australian residents, but there is a strictly limited reading period. Stories received outside this period (except by prior arrangement) will not be considered.

Manuscript submission:

must be by mail and include either SSAE, or an email address (if you're happy to get an electronic response). We will assume that manuscripts are disposable. Please use standard layout for your manuscript (single-sided, double-spaced, reasonable margins, clear type).

Response time:

we undertake to get back to you within eight weeks of receiving your manuscript. You will receive either a polite and respectful rejection or notification that your story is on the shortlist. Final decision on the contents of the anthology will be made by the end of the year.

Word length:

up to about 10,000 words. Your chances are maximised with stories below 6000 words, but we will be after quality and if you can keep us agog! through to the maximum length, then you'll be in. Several big stories grabbed us for inclusion in the first two anthologies.

Payment:

$25. We hope to be able to increase this in future. You will also receive one contributor's copy of the finished anthology, with an option of purchase further copies at a special contributor's rate.

Rights assigned:

first Australian rights. We require that subsequent publication of stories will not take place until one year after the agog! publication date, and that agog! be acknowledged.
